History of Atascosa Lodge #379

Atascosa Lodge #379 was organized by eleven Master Masons in Benton City in 1872 and chartered June 9, 1873, by the Grand Lodge of Texas, (AF&AM). The first lodge was on the second floor of a store in Benton City. In 1875 the cornerstone was laid for a sturdy two story stone structure, which also provided space for a public school. In 1908 the lodge purchased property in Lytle and built a new structure where meetings were held for 52 years. On December 16, 1961 the cornerstone was laid for the current structure. By the entrance you will find the cornerstone from the first stone structure in Benton City . (Pictured is the Oringal Lytle Lodge Building)
